It’s time to start thinking where to go for my mid-summer break this year. But, I need to curb my spending a bit more than normal. My money can’t be spent to the same level abroad now and cheap flights aren’t as available as they were before this credit mess. What if I book a flight and the company folds before my holiday or leaves me stranded on a tropical island (well, that wouldm’t be so bad!)!).

I was chatting to a friend last night about my problem – explaining that I wanted a holiday full of FUN and laughter as I am fed up of hearing all about the credit crunch but at the same time I was living it so have to spend carefully. He suggested that I should think about searching for some holidays in Wales. One of the places that he recommended for weekend breaks in Wales was somewhere called Barfundle Bay, which is supposed to be lovely.

Apparently, ‘it’s not unusual’, for people to stereotype Wales and the Welsh in this way – the weather is a little dodgy and there are blokes named Dai (but not all of them) but there is so much to do that the weather doesn’t spoil a thing. He kindly informed me that preparing for bad weather means that good weather is an added treat.

I thought I better have a little look. I jumped onto my laptop, fired up the internet access and plunged into a world of Wales on the web. I love youtube.com. It’s perfect for the lazy surfer.com – saves me reading stuff and I found the following video which is part of an advertising campaign for Wales in Style suggesting things you can do in Wales.

Apparently you can go cycling, play at boats with kids, stay in a blue hotel (which looks like one of those toy – holiday cottages in Wales, which is full of local stuff like the blankets, the art on the wall – even the beds~) which has been adorned with local products. Rock climbing, and then throwing yourself off a cliff into water, drink welsh wine, eat crab and sausages (Welsh surf and turf – tee hee!) or locally produced food, cooked by a Michelin star chef. The list of stuff seems to go on forever.

OK, my conscience is telling me that I should give Wales a go as it helps the economy too .

If you are going to stay in Wales, there a loads of cottages for hire, that are not only well priced but are also easy to find. Wales offers a fantastic number of holiday cottages, quality bed and breakfast and self catering units.

Some of the best holidays in Wales are available if you rent a self contained cottage or bed and breakfast. You can choose to go on one of the weekend breaks in Wales or simply look for a nice bed and breakfast. The following represent three that come highly recommended for value and location:

1. Cefn Coch farm holiday cottage

Holiday cottages in Wales couldn’t be set in a more stunning location than on a hillside just a few miles away from Machynlleth. If you are looking for a peaceful, serene and a private location then this cottage would certainly suit you. This cottage offers 4 king sized bedrooms and with comes plentiful space for all your activities. The cottage is also located nearby the Museum of Modern Art.

2. Ty Cerbyd cottage

The cottage is surrounded by gorgeous Welsh Countryside and was formerly the coach house of the estate. The old beams have been retained in the cottage. There is also a riverside patio area with access to the nearby river. It also offers well equipped kitchen, lounge, and double and twin bedroom and bathroom.

3. Mor A Mynydd cottage

The cottage can accommodate up to 8 people. Even a pet is allowed in this cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and close to a picturesque sandy beach with lots of activities. A district golf club is just a few minutes away from the cottage and some of the other attractive activities are also just a few minutes of drive away. These activities include Go-karting, bowling, coarse fishing, clay pigeon shooting and paint ball shooting.
